Of the 487 million phone numbers, 32 million were from the United States, 45 million from Egypt, 5 million from Italy, and 29 million from Saudi Arabia. Besides, there were 20 million French, 10 million Russian, and 10 million British phone numbers in this list. Besides, the phone numbers of 8 million users in Brazil were also on this list.

However, this data breach is quite contradictory to a recent claim by Mark Zuckerberg. Mark said a few days ago that WhatsApp is more private and secure than iMessage. But the sad thing is that this huge data breach happened within a month of this comment. WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption on Android and iOS apps. On the other hand, iMessage uses common SMS technology to send messages on Android.
However, WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption technology is not very useful. A large number of phone numbers were exposed as part of this data breach. But what is to be seen is what WhatsApp has to say about this. WhatsApp has not yet officially announced anything about this data breach.
WhatsApp currently has more than 2 billion users worldwide. That is, it is one of the largest messaging apps in the world. And that means that about one-fourth of all WhatsApp users’ data is currently at risk.
In such a situation, be careful if you receive a message from an unknown number on your WhatsApp. Many fraudsters can send messages about various amazing offers or lotteries. Those messages may contain various harmful links. Don’t forget to click on those links. Also, don’t reply to suspicious messages. Try to hide as much personal information as possible by changing the profile picture.
