Pubnews: Mother-son duo clears West Bengal’s higher secondary exam together. The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) recently announced the outcomes of the 2023 Higher Secondary or 12th class examinations. The results unveiled a pass rate of 89.25 percent among the participating students. Notably, a remarkable mother-son duo from Shantipur, West Bengal, exhibited exceptional performances, with the mother surpassing her son by a margin of 40 points. While the son achieved a score of 284, the mother scored an impressive 324.

Latika Mandal, aged 38, resides in Naya Sardarpara of Narsinghpur, under the jurisdiction of Shantipur police station. She married Aseem Mandal two decades ago. Latika, originally from Dhubulia, had to discontinue her education after completing class 6 due to financial constraints within her family. Nevertheless, her passion for learning never diminished. Despite her responsibilities of managing the household and raising children, she found solace in books and reading. Determined to continue her education, Latika enrolled in the Rabindra Open School with the assistance of a neighbor.

In 2020, Latika and her daughter successfully passed the Secondary Examination (Class 10) with commendable results. The subsequent year, her son also cleared the secondary school examination. In 2021, Latika enrolled in Narsinghpur High School, pursuing the Arts stream in 11th grade. Her son, Sourav, is currently a student at Kalna Maharaja High School in East Bardhaman. This year, both Latika and Sourav triumphantly cleared the Higher Secondary Examination in the Arts stream, despite studying in different schools.

Despite attending different schools, Latika and her son Sourav, residing in Naya Sardarpara of Narsinghpur, under the jurisdiction of Shantipur police station, have emerged as noteworthy candidates. Looking ahead, Latika aspires to pursue a degree in education, while Sourav aims to prepare for government jobs after completing college. However, Latika expressed her dissatisfaction with the published results, stating, “It would have been better if the results were reversed. If my son had performed slightly better, it would have benefited him in the future. What more can one expect at my age?” On the other hand, Sourav acknowledged his mother’s remarkable achievement and expressed, “Everyone admires my mother’s extraordinary accomplishment, which makes my victory even more special!
