How BSNL lost 15 lakhs, Customer

Pubnews: How BSNL lost 15 lakhs Customer. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL lost 1.5 million or more than 15 lakh wireless users in January this year. This information came out recently through the Telecom Performance Report published by the ‘Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI. The state-owned telecom company has been losing subscribers consistently over the past several quarters, in line with Vodafone Idea (Vi). However, BSNL is not able to add new customers that way. Because BSNL is yet to launch 4G in places where Indians have already experienced 5G network usage. Due to this subscribers are more interested to leave the hands of BSNL and connect with private telecom operators providing a 4G/5G network.

BSNL added more subscribers in January due to a lack of a 4G network

Due to the lack of 4th generation mobile cellular network BSNL’s subscriber base is declining day by day. However, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav is claiming that this situation will change soon. Because recently he said that BSNL has already started getting the necessary equipment from ‘Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to launch 4G services. In this regard, TCS has so far provided equipment for 50 sites through the Tejas Network, which will be upgraded by the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT). It is also known that the state-run telco may use standalone technology for the 4G network, which is later upgradeable to 5G.

TRAI’s report revealed that BSNL’s overall wireless subscriber base is now down to 10.523 crores (105.23 million) after losing around 1.5 lakh wireless subscribers in January 2023. If the situation continues for a few more months, this number will drop below 10 crores

Incidentally, BSNL’s subscriber market share in wireless mobile services was 9.21% at the end of January 2023. On the contrary, Mukesh Ambani’s telecom company Reliance Jio is at the top with a total market share of 37.28%. In this case, most of the customers are leaving BSNL and moving to Jio or Bharti Airtel. And so now the ‘Average Revenue Per User’ or ARPU rate of these private telecom companies has become more than that of BSNL. Incidentally, the state-owned company was last able to add new wireless subscribers under its services in January 2021. That is, the telco has continued to lose customers for almost two years.

BSNL will be able to regain its footing only if it is able to accelerate its 4G-network roll out and try to ace the plans of competing private companies.
