Earlier this year, Apple introduced its second-generation Apple New HomePod smart speaker in India, featuring a sleek mesh exterior and a backlit touch surface on top of its cylindrical body. Analysts have hinted at a 2024 launch for a redesigned HomePod, possibly featuring a 7-inch touchscreen. A recent leak adds weight to these speculations, suggesting a HomePod design with a touch display.

A Glimpse of Apple’s Touch Display HomePod

As per a recent post by user Kosutami (@KosutamiSan), Apple is developing a HomePod frame shell equipped with a glass top intended to serve as a touch display, complete with black bezels. The design, according to the post, bears a resemblance to the second-generation Apple HomePod. Although additional details about the speaker are not provided, this development is generating significant buzz among Apple enthusiasts.

Apple’s Ongoing Innovation in Smart Speakers

Apple’s journey into enhancing its smart speaker lineup comes almost two years after the discontinuation of the first-generation HomePod. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously hinted at Apple’s work on a touchscreen HomePod, speculating that it might feature a 7-inch touchscreen panel in the first half of 2024. While this vision takes shape, Tianma, suggested as a potential exclusive partner for Apple’s speaker, continues to supply displays to various businesses.

Competing in the Smart Speaker Arena

Apple’s foray into touchscreen-enabled smart speakers positions it to compete with industry rivals, including Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon’s Echo Show models. While Apple has been a dominant force in various tech arenas, it has lagged behind in the smart speaker sector. This forthcoming innovation aims to level the playing field, offering users a more interactive and feature-rich experience.

Current Offering: Second-Generation HomePod

In the meantime, Apple’s second-generation HomePod smart speaker boasts Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, and is powered by the S7 processor. It’s available in India for Rs. 32,900 and comes in two color options, White and Midnight. As Apple continues to push the boundaries of what smart speakers can offer, users can anticipate exciting new features in future HomePod models.
